Valletta Lighthouse - Rik Van Colen

Valletta Lighthouse

Stones, shaped to protect us from the blues.

Valletta Lighthouse was a landmark in my development as an artist.

On a Winter evening, as the light fell, I stood on the rocks of Grand Harbour, taking in this scene, and envisioned an image that conveyed how I felt. I conceptualised how I would capture what was in front of me to project my inner self onto a photograph. A photograph that expresses to the viewer my experience of that moment.

This desire to transmit my vision to you, the viewer of my art, has been my modus operandi ever since.

Award & Exhibition

A while later followed another landmark. This piece gave me my first ever award.

An Honourable Mention at the Malta National Photographic competition, 2014 and on display at the related exhibition that same year.

Even in this digital age, fine art printing is a special art, a master craft of its own.

I have partnered with  a master printer. He crafts all my prints on the finest museum grade papers, using a carefully calibrated P-type Giclée printing process. This ensures that colour prints will last over 100 years without any fading at all. To guarantee maximum and pristine quality, all my prints are mounted on museum quality acid and lignin free matboards (passe-partout).
